वाल्मीकि - संक्षिप्त जीवन परिचय
हिंदुओं के प्रसिद्ध महाकाव्य वाल्मीकि रामायण, जिसे कि आदि रामायण भी कहा जाता है और जिसमें भगवान श्रीरामचन्द्र के निर्मल एवं कल्याणकारी चरित्र का वर्णन है, के रचयिता महर्षि वाल्मीकि के विषय में अनेक प्रकार की भ्रांतियाँ प्रचलित है जिसके अनुसार उन्हें निम्नवर्ग का बताया जाता है जबकि वास्तविकता इसके विरुद्ध है| ऐसा प्रतीत होता है कि हिंदुओं के द्वारा हिंदू संस्कृति को भुला दिये जाने के कारण ही इस प्रकार की भ्रांतियाँ फैली हैं| वाल्मीकि रामायण में स्वयं वाल्मीकि ने श्लोक ì瓥;ंख्या 7/93/16, 7/96/18, और 7/111/11 में लिखा है कि व प्रचेता के पुत्र हैं| मनुस्मृति में प्रचेता को वशिष्ठ, नारद, पुलस्त्य आदि का भाई बताया गया है| बताया जाता है कि प्रचेता का एक नाम वरुण भी है और वरुण ब्रह्माजी के पुत्र थे| यह भी माना जाता है कि वाल्मीकि वरुण अर्थात् प्रचेता के 10वें पुत्र थे और उन दिनों के प्रचलन के अनुसार उनके भी दो नाम 'अग्निशर्मा' एवं 'रत्नाकर' थे|
किंवदन्ती है कि बाल्यावस्था में ही रत्नाकर को एक निःसंतान भीलनी ने चुरा लिया और प्रेमपूर्वक उनका पालन-पोषण किया| जिस वन प्रदेश में उस भीलनी का निवास था वहाँ का भील समुदाय असभ्य था और वन्य प्राणियों का आखेट एवं दस्युकर्म ही उनके लिये जीवन या&#瓥346;न का मुख्य साधन था| हत्या जैसा जघन्य अपराध उनके लिये सामान्य बात थी| उन्हीं क्रूर भीलों की संगति में रत्नाकर पले, बढ़े, और दस्युकर्म में लिप्त हो गये|
युवा हो जाने पर रत्नाकर का विवाह उसी समुदाय की एक भीलनी से कर दिया गया और ग्राहस्थ जीवन में प्रवेश के बाद वे अनेकों संतानों के पिता बन गये| परिवार में वृद्धि के कारण अधिक धनोपार्जन करने के लिये वे और भी अधिक पापकर्म करने लगे|
एक दिन साधुओं की एक मंडली उस वन प्रदेश से गुजर रही थी| रत्नाकर ने उनसे धन की मांग की और धन न देने की स्थिति में हत्या कर देने की धमकी भी दी| साधुओं के यह पूछने पर कि वह ये पापकर्म किसलिये करता है रत्नाकर ने बताया कि परिवार के लिये| इस पर साधुओं के गुरु ने पूछा कि जिस तरह तुम्हारे पापè瓥;र्म से प्राप्त धन का उपभोग तुम्हारे समस्त परिजन करते हैं क्या उसी तरह तुम्हारे पापकर्मों के दण्ड में भी वे भागीदार होंगे? रत्नाकर ने कहा कि न तो मुझे पता है और न ही कभी मैने इस विषय में सोचा है|
साधुओं के गुरु ने कहा कि जाकर अपने परिवार के लोगों से पूछ कर आवो और यदि वे तुम्हारे पापकर्म के दण्ड के भागीदार होने के लिये तैयार हैं तो अवश्य लूटमार करते रहना वरना इस कार्य को छोड़ देना, यदि तुम्हें संदेह है कि हम लोग भाग जायेंगे तो हमें वृक्षों से बांधकर चले जाओ|
साधुओं को पेड़ों से बांधकर रत्नाकर अपने परिजनों के पास पहुँचे| पत्नी, संतान, माता-पिता आदि में से कोई भी उनके पापकर्म में के फल में भागीदार होने के लिये तैयार न था, सभी का कहना था कि भला किसी एक के कर्म का फल कोई दूसरा कैसे भोग सकता है!
रत्नाकर को अपने परिजनो瓥ं की बातें सुनकर बहुत दुख हुआ और उन साधुओं से क्षमा मांग कर उन्हें छोड़ दिया| साधुओं से रत्नाकर ने अपने पापों से उद्धार का उपाय भी पूछा| साधुओं ने उन्हें तमसा नदी के तट पर जाकर 'राम-राम' का जाप करने का परामर्श दिया| रत्नाकर ने वैसा ही किया परंतु वे राम शब्द को भूल जाने के कारण 'मरा-मरा' का जाप करते हुये अखंड तपस्या में लीन हो गये| तपस्या के फलस्वरूप उन्हें दिव्य ज्ञान की प्राप्ति हुई और वे वाल्मीकि के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हुये|
Valmiki - A Short Introduction
There are various hallucinations regarding Maharshi Valmiki who is the creater of Valmiki Ramayan, a Hindu epic describing the congenial and propitious character of Lord Rama. According to these Maharshi Valmiki is treated as low category person that is just opposite to the fact. It appears that Hindus have forgotten the Hindu culture and as a result these hallucinations rose. Valmiki himself has written in his epic Valmiki Ramayan in in Shlok (verse) No. 7/93/16, 7/96/18 and 7/111/11 that he is son of Pracheta. As per Manusmriti, a voluminous book, Pracheta is brother of Vshishtha, Narad, Pulastya etc. It is told that Varun is another name of Pracheta. Lord Brhama is the father of Varun and, therefore, Varun also comes into the category of Lords. Valmiki was the 10th son of Lord Varun alias Pracheta and as per prevalence of those days he also had two names viz. ‘Agnisharma’ and ‘Ratnakar’.
As per a legend a childless ‘Bhilni’, a low category woman, took Ratnakar secretly with her and did his upbringing affectionately. The ‘Bhils’, a low category in Hindus, of the forest region, which was the residence of that ‘Bhilni’ also were uncivilized and atrocious and their main business was hunting and robbe瓥y. Heinous crime like murder was common for them. Ratnakar grew among them and became a great hunter as well as robber.
After achieving young age, Ratnakar married with a ‘Bhil’ girl. His family became bigger due to birth of several children. Ratnakar increased the sin job of robbery to fulfill the desires of his family members.
One day Ratnakar trapped some saints and demanded money by threatening them. Saints asked why he was engaged in sin jobs. Ratnakar told them that he wanted to fulfill the desires of his family members. Saints again asked whether his family members would share the retribution of sin jobs just like they were sharing his money. Ratnakar’s answer was I don’t know. Saints suggested him to go to his family members and ask about this. Ratnakar did likewise and became sad to know that nobody was going to share his sins. Ratnakar apologized to saints and asked how could he get redemption of his sins. Saints suggested him to go the bank of Tamsa, which is treated as a holly river by Hindus, and do the reiteration of the name of Lord Ram. Ratnakar followed their instructions and became a great saint viz. Maharshi Valmiki.
